What are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are muscle-relaxing drugs that are derived from the toxin of the same bacterium that causes food poisoning (Clostridium botulinum).
In small doses, it provides a therapeutic effect. It has been used to successfully treat uncontrolled muscle contractions of the eyelid, cervical, and limb dystonia (a neurological movement disorder), and is also being investigated for myofascial pain.
Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age.

What are cosmetic muscle relaxers?
Cosmetic muscle relaxers are injectable medications that block nerve transmission to specific muscles, preventing those muscles from contracting and creating wrinkles in the face. JUVEDERM® Ultra XC injectable gel is a hyaluronic acid gel (a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body) formulated with 0.3% lidocaine for a more comfortable patient experience. It is also available in Juvederm Ultra Plus XC which is a denser more highly crosslinked form for more “filling power”. Juvederm XC gel is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe wrinkles and folds occur: most often the “parentheses folds” around the nose and mouth, the tear troughs and lips. The injected gel adds immediate volume and restores a smoother appearance to the face.
The main ingredient in Juvederm Voluma XC is hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body). Voluma is the first and only soft-tissue, nonsurgical liquid facelift filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume and provide lift to the central face and cheek area. This facial filler helps to restore the youthful contour of the face, with results lasting for up to 2-3 years.
Radiesse is an FDA-approved, Calcium derived dermal filler used for the minimally invasive correction of facial lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. Radiesse gives you immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles providing long-lasting results that typically last a year or more. Years of rigorous clinical studies prove that Radiesse provides long lasting correction of smile lines and wrinkles around the nose , mouth, and hands. Radiesse is gently injected into the skin with a very fine needle and has then been shown to stimulate the body’s natural production of new collagen. This unique response provides immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, with then long-lasting and beautiful results. The minimally invasive outpatient procedure requires little to no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities almost immediately after treatment.
Sculptra® is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment for reducing diffuse facial wrinkles and volume loss. Sculptra treatments result in a fuller, more youthful facial appearance. This product is frequently identified as the “liquid facelift,” Sculptra® works by stimulating your body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue. Your own collagen fills in the line and wrinkles and also elevates the sagging skin. Sculptra is typically used throughout many parts of the face including the areas around the eyes and lips, and throughout the cheeks and neck. It adds volume to the cheeks, to the folds around the chin, and to the hollow areas around the eyes. Sculptra® is a safe FDA approved filler that is injected below the surface of the skin directly into the areas of the face that appear sunken or hollow. The volumizing effect then occurs gradually over several treatment sessions spaced out over weeks to months. The results achieved with Sculptra can last 2 years or more because it causes the body to stimulate its own collagen thus giving a natural long lasting result.
