Chemical Peels

Chemical peels in Columbus, GA

Chemical peels are a great way to turn back the clock on many of the signs of aging, including wrinkles, age spots, dull skin tone, and uneven skin tone. Men and women with lighter skin tones generally make the best candidates, since chemical peels can result in pigmentation issues with people of darker complexions. However, Dr. Tanda Lane is one of only a few dermatologists with expertise performing chemical peels with darker complexions. The procedure does not address deep wrinkles or furrows, so patients with those issues should seek alternative treatments (see our CO2 laser page). Chemical peels can also address acne scarring, and are generally used on the face, hands, and neck.

Chemical peels are topically applied acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin’s surface. They create a uniform and controlled shedding of several layers of the skin. Depending on the nature and depth of the peel, a significant number of layers can be exfoliated allowing new growth to be exposed, creating a fresh, vibrant appearance. In addition, chemical peels accelerate the production of new cells, tighten and tone the skin,

and decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels are increasingly popular with those who are unhappy about acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, fine lines, rough skin, and uneven pigmentation. A chemical peel is not limited to the face, and can be performed on the neck, chest, hands, arms, shoulders, and legs – just about anywhere.

Peer-reviewed chemical peels researched by Dr. Josh and Tanda Lane

Dr. Tanda Lane did extensive research on aesthetic chemical peels during her training at Emory University. She has been published in peer-reviewed aesthetic and medical dermatology journals specifically on how to optimize chemical peeling techniques with facial pigmentation.

Dr. Joshua Lane helped pioneer the 95% tricholoroacetic acid (TCA) chemical peel for the treatment of facial acne scarring. This technique has been published extensively in peer-reviewed surgical dermatology journals and the histologic effects of this peel have been confirmed.  In addition, he routinely utilizes the CO2 laser to treat and improve acne scarring.
